Ask the AI for changes in the chat

Describe the change in your own words. The AI prepares it, the platform checks it and the result becomes a new version. See what it costs and what happens when something goes wrong.

How it works

The chat sits on the left of the editor. You write what you want to change (some copy, a color, a new section, a page) and the AI prepares the change. Before anything is saved, the platform checks that it is valid. Every applied change becomes a new version that you can undo from the History.

The chat works in both editors: the visual editor for template projects, and code mode. Costs and review rules differ a little between them, as shown below.

Send a request

  1. Click the chat's message box

  2. Describe the change

Enter sends; Shift+Enter adds a new line. In the visual editor, the Dictate button turns your speech into text.

  3. If you like, attach images or files with +

    See Attachments and context.

  4. Follow the progress

The chat tells you while the AI is working. In code mode it also shows the current step and how much time has passed.

In the visual editor, selecting a block in the preview makes the chat show Editing: …, and a request like “make it shorter” applies to that block. Click the x on the tag to talk about the whole site again. The Project knowledge, under More, is sent with every request; use it for fixed rules such as the tone or what never to say.

Apply right away or review first

ModeVisual editorCode mode
BuildApplies the change as soon as it passes the checks. Also applies right away and creates the version.
PlanShows the proposal with Apply and Discard; nothing changes until you apply it.Opens the architect, who writes the project plan without touching the code. See Plan mode.

In the visual editor, switch modes with Alt+P. In code mode, Generate tasks breaks the plan into tasks to build one by one, and Build the whole plan builds it all at once.

What each request costs

RequestCredits
A chat request in the visual editor, including Suggest content with AI2
A small or medium request in code mode3
A large request in code mode (a whole system, rebuilding the site)10, only after you confirm
A request to the architect in code mode's Plan mode1
Each step of a site built in steps2
Restoring a version or editing by handFree

Your balance and per-request usage are under AI usage. See also AI credits.

Note.In code mode, a large request first shows up as This is a large request, with the estimated time and credits. Nothing is charged until you click Continue. If your credits aren't enough, the chat suggests the same request in smaller parts, each with Use this request.

When something goes wrong

  • If the AI fails because of a technical error, nothing changes on your site and the credits go back to your balance.
  • In code mode, a change that doesn't pass the checks is never applied, and the credits go back. Technical details shows why.
  • In code mode, an answer that changes nothing (an explanation, a question back) costs 1 credit, and the rest goes back. Discard on a proposal also returns everything above 1 credit.
  • In the visual editor, a request is charged once the AI answers, even if the answer is that the change isn't available on this site, and Discard on a proposal doesn't return the credits.
  • If a code mode request is cut off because the server restarted, the chat shows it as interrupted and the credits go back.
  • Asking “go back to version 3” in code mode doesn't use the AI: the chat offers a free Restore version 3 button.

Common problems

I've run out of credits.

AI requests stop until your balance is back, but you can keep editing by hand in the visual editor and restoring versions. Plan credits renew every month; to get more before then, see Billing.

The AI said the change isn't available.

In the visual editor, the AI can only change what the template allows. Try describing it another way, or use the sections and fields in the Edit tab.

I see a message asking me to slow down.

Each person can send up to 20 requests per minute. Wait a moment and send it again.

How long does a request take in code mode?

Usually 1 to 4 minutes for a tweak, 3 to 8 for a medium request and 8 to 20 for a large one.

Why can't I send requests?

People with the Viewer role can see the project but can't ask the AI for changes.
