Connect your own domain

Use an address like www.yourcompany.com instead of the free address. You add one record to your domain's DNS and Micronuage takes care of the security certificate.

Plans and requirements

Connecting your own domain is available on the Starter, Pro and Business plans. The domain must be registered in your name with a registrar of your choice: Micronuage doesn't sell domains.

  • Publish the project. The domain only shows the site after publishing.
  • Have access to the dashboard where the domain's DNS is managed: your registrar or a DNS service you already use.
  • Choose the address. We recommend the www one (for example www.yourcompany.com), which works with every DNS provider.

Connect it step by step

  1. Open the project's domain panel

In template projects: More → Domains (or click the project name and choose Domains). In code projects: the Domain button at the top of the editor.

  2. Under Your own domain, type the domain and click Connect

Type just the address, like www.yourcompany.com. You don't need https://.

  3. Copy the target address shown in the panel

It's the exact value your domain must point to. Always use the one the panel shows.

  4. Create the record at your DNS provider

See the table below for which record type to use.

  5. Come back and click Verify connection

If the record can't be found yet, the panel tells you. DNS changes can take from a few minutes to a few hours to take effect.

  6. Follow along with Refresh status

After verification, the hosting provider prepares the security certificate. Click Refresh status now and then until it shows Live.

The DNS records

Address you want to useRecord typeNameValue
www.yourcompany.comCNAMEwwwThe target address shown in the panel
shop.yourcompany.comCNAMEshopThe target address shown in the panel
yourcompany.com (no www)ALIAS or ANAME@ or blank, depending on the providerThe same target address

Important. The root domain (without www) can't hold a CNAME, by a rule of DNS itself. If your provider offers neither ALIAS nor ANAME, connect the www address.

What each status means

StatusWhat's happening
Not connected yetThe domain was added, but the DNS record hasn't been confirmed. Create the record and click Verify connection.
Verifying DNSThe record was found and the domain was handed to the hosting provider, which is checking everything.
Connected — issuing certificateThe hosting provider accepted the domain and is setting up https. On the Domains page it shows as Connecting.
Issuing certificateThe security certificate is being created.
LiveThe site answers at your domain, with https.
ErrorThe hosting provider couldn't finish. See Domain troubleshooting.

Security certificate (SSL)

The certificate that gives the address https and the browser's padlock is issued automatically by the hosting provider, at no cost. You don't need to buy or install anything.

With or without www

Each project connects one domain of its own at a time. If you connect the www address, people who type the address without www won't reach the site unless your provider sends one to the other. Many registrars offer that redirect (sometimes called forwarding): set it up to send yourcompany.com to www.yourcompany.com.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the same domain on two projects?

No. A domain can only be connected to one Micronuage site. To move it, click Remove on the current project and connect the domain on the other one.

How do I change or remove the domain?

In the domain panel, click Remove. The site stays at the free address, and you can connect another domain.

Who can connect a domain?

Owners, admins and editors. Members with the Viewer role can't connect or remove domains.

Will my domain's email stop working?

No, as long as you only create the record shown and don't change the MX records, which handle email.
