Sync a code project with GitHub
Keep a project's code in a GitHub repository, with changes flowing both ways, or import a repository as a new project.
What it's for
GitHub sync is useful if you work with a developer or want a copy of the code outside Micronuage. Every change made here becomes a commit in the repository, and every push to the branch comes back here as a new version of the project.
It only works with code projects; see Code mode. The GitHub button appears at the top of the editor when the integration is available.
Connect a project to a repository
In the editor, click GitHub at the top
Click Connect GitHub
You go to GitHub to install the Micronuage app and choose which repositories it can access. Then you come back to the editor.
Choose the Account and the Repository and click Sync
The project's code becomes the next commit on the repository's default branch; its history is kept.
Or create a new repository
Under Or create a new repository, enter a Name, tick Private if you like and click Create and sync.
Under Advanced options, you can choose another Branch (empty means the default one; a new branch is created from it) or a Folder in the repository (empty means the root; for example, apps/site). If the repository isn't listed, use Choose which repositories the app can access.
How sync works
- Changed only in Micronuage: the changes become a commit on the branch.
- Changed only on GitHub: the branch's code becomes the project's next version, with GitHub as its source in the history.
- Changed on both sides: the files changed here are committed on top of GitHub's commit; a file changed on both sides keeps the Micronuage version.
- Nothing is lost: every version stays in History and every commit stays in git. The branch only moves forward.
- Code from GitHub goes through the same checks as the AI's. If something fails, the code is kept, the problem is reported and publishing waits for a fix.
- Images and other binary files, and GitHub's automation files (workflows), stay in the repository only.
Once the project is connected, the panel shows Synced with the repository and branch, the time of the last sync and the Sync now, Open on GitHub and Disconnect buttons. Disconnecting stops syncing and changes nothing in the repository.
Import a repository as a new project
On the Dashboard, click Import from GitHub
Choose the Account
If you haven't connected one yet, click Connect GitHub. For another account, use Connect another GitHub account.
Decide on Keep it in sync with the repository
When ticked, the new project stays in two-way sync with the branch.
Click Import on the repository
The editor opens with the imported code as version 1.
The default branch is imported unless you choose another under Advanced options. Images and other binary files stay in the repository. Micronuage runs React projects built with Vite; a project of another kind (Next.js, Vue, HTML…) is imported with a notice and an Adapt it with the AI button, which sends a request to the AI and uses credits. Importing counts toward your plan's project limit.
Common problems
Can I sync a visual-editor project?
No. Only code projects can sync. When the option is available, the project menu offers Convert to code (beta), which can't be undone.
I see “The Micronuage app can't access this repository anymore”.
The app's access was removed on GitHub. Allow the repository again in the app's settings on GitHub, then sync.
I see “The branch changed during the sync”.
Someone pushed while the sync was running. Click Sync now again.
The **GitHub** button has a yellow dot.
The last sync failed or the code from GitHub has problems. Open the panel to read the notice; ask the AI to fix it or fix it on GitHub.
Does disconnecting delete the repository?
No. The repository and its commits stay on GitHub; only the sync stops.
