Fix domain and SSL problems

What to do when your domain won't connect, gets stuck on a status or the site doesn't open with https.

First checks

  • Is the project published? On the Domains page, the domain of a project that isn't live shows as Not published or Suspended, even when the DNS is right.
  • Is the record's value exact? It must be the target address from the panel, without https:// and without a trailing slash.
  • Was the record created in the right place? If your domain uses another service's DNS servers (an old hosting provider, for example), the record has to be created there, not at the registrar.
  • Did you click Refresh status? The status doesn't update on screen by itself.

Messages when connecting and what to do

MessageWhat to do
"We couldn't find a CNAME record…"The record isn't visible yet. Check its type, name and value, wait a few minutes and click Verify connection again.
"This domain is already connected to a Micronuage site."The domain is on another project, perhaps in another workspace of yours. Remove it there first. If you don't recognize the other project, contact support.
"… is a Micronuage address…"Addresses ending in micronuage.com.br already belong to Micronuage and don't need connecting.
"Custom domains are available on paid plans."Move to Starter, Pro or Business in Billing.
"Connecting domains is temporarily unavailable."It's temporary, on our side. Try again later.
"The hosting provider didn't accept this domain."Check that the domain was typed correctly. If the error continues, contact support.

Stuck status or an error

  • Verifying DNS, Connecting or Issuing certificate for a long time: it usually takes from minutes to a few hours. Click Refresh status now and then. If it goes past a day, contact support.
  • Error: the hosting provider couldn't validate the domain or issue the certificate. Check the DNS record and click Verify connection to try again. If it persists, click Remove, connect the domain again and, if it still fails, contact support.

If you use a proxy service such as Cloudflare

Services that route traffic through a proxy hide the real record, so the check can't find the target address. Set the record to "DNS only" (the grey cloud on Cloudflare) so the connection and the certificate work.

Frequently asked questions

How long until the domain works?

Once the DNS is updated, it usually takes from minutes to a few hours. If you changed the domain's DNS servers, it can take up to a day or two.

The site opens without https or with a security warning.

The certificate is still being issued: wait until the status reaches Live. If it's already Live, try a private window or another browser.

The address without www doesn't open.

Only the connected domain answers. Set up a redirect at your registrar from the address without www to the one with www. See With or without www.

My domain's email stopped after I edited the DNS.

Micronuage doesn't use the email records. Check whether an MX record was deleted or changed by mistake.
